The health and safety of our program participants and staff is top priority at NISRA. Media reports surrounding the Coronavirus and its potential impact on the United States have been circulating widely in recent weeks. In light of these reports, we wanted to share information with you about communicable disease prevention and planning at NISRA.
It is important to note that there is currently only one reported case of the Coronavirus in McHenry County and NOT an outbreak. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recently issued a statement that you may read online, http://dph.illlinois.gov/ At this time the CDC and IDPH are not recommending cancelling school and programs. We would take full direction and guidance from the CDC and other trusted agencies, including our local school districts, in the event of a viral outbreak in our service region.
As with most communicable illnesses, common prevention measures are recommended:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect touched objects and surfaces frequently.
NISRA cleans all rooms and surfaces in the Sage Therapeutic Recreation Center on a regular basis and will continue with established disinfecting practices. NISRA staff will continue to follow direction from the McHenry County Health Department and local school districts, as well as share important information with you as it becomes available.
